3) Now reflect on your video. Did you meet the brief and successfully include the three key editing aspects we have learned?
Yes I think I met the brief and included the 3 editing aspects of match-on-action, shot-reverse-shot and the 180 degree rule during the scene where the two characters were interacting and having a conversation. There were many match-on-action shots including, getting the note from the locker and entering the classroom as well as walking up the stairs in the first two shots.
4) What were the strengths and weaknesses of your final film? Write a detailed analysis picking out specific shots, edits and any other aspect of film language you think is relevant.
I think that the strengths were the key aspects of mise-en-scene that that built suspense and tension as well as enigma codes that all established the subtle mystery narrative. I also think the cinematography added to this and the editing was a good factor in also emphasising the narrative with good cuts and transitions between shots. I think the sound played well, parallel to all the scenes and also there was good pace match between the sound and video. However, I think a weakness would be to to fix the sound and make sure that it's volume isn't too low while keeping it muffled. Also, there was one shot that had a little dimmer lighting than the others because the quality wasn't the best since it got transported from another phone through Whatsapp instead of airdrop.
5) Learner response: what aspect of editing did you find most difficult? What have you learned from this process that will help you when you start the actual coursework later this year?
I think the hardest part was trying to discover new tools and editing actions as I had to research it online on how to find and use certain editing tools such as the ability to muffle sound but it wasn't too hard to find videos on Youtube that explain how it all works. I have now learned, however different methods of video transitions that I can add in my videos in the future and also overall, from all of the practical we have done this year, I am confident with editing and creating videos and tasks, including key aspects of mise-en-scene, sound, lighting, cinematography and editing.
