Mise-en-scene blog tasks
Create a blogpost called 'Mise-en-scene blog tasks' on your Media 2 Coursework blog and complete the following tasks from your Film and TV Language booklet:
1) Find a distinctive still image and write an analysis of the mise-en-scene. Use each of the aspects you've learned in the lesson.
Costume- the guy is wearing a suit, which shows he may be rich and sophisticated as it makes him look well presented and smart for work.
Props- he is holding a file, which shows that he is currently at work and has a lot of cases to deal with as a busy man. There is also a speaker and tennis balls placed behind him, showing that he likes sports and music and is also a fun guy.
Actor placement- his body language shows him sitting up straight but leaned against a countertop, which puts him in a position of power. His facial expressions show him smirking like he has all the power in the world as an ignorant upper class man with some news to tell.
Makeup/hair- his hair is styled normally but in a stylish manner to look smart.
Lighting- it's daylight, bright outside- shows that it's the time to work.
Setting- he is in a tall building in an office with a high view suggesting he is a head member of the company/ firm he is working at and has a well paid job.
2) Find TWO film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g. horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blogpost and write a comparison of the mise-en-scene in each.

Comparison:
In extract 1, the main character enters an office setting, which showcases the sophisticated workplaces she is willing to work in. The woman who is the owner of the company is sitting down and the girl is standing up. This shows the level of authority the elder woman faces as an experience businesswoman compared to the girl who just graduated from college. The girl was wearing a normal day to day outfit including jeans and a jacket, which was unusual for the setting of a fashionable work place, explaining the woman's idea of her being unfashionable. On the other hand, extract 2 is set in a school canteen as the 4 girls are all having lunch together. The 3 main girls are on one side and the main character is on the other, showing the separation due to class divide and also because she was the new girl. The new girl was wearing a very basic outfit, whereas the other 3 girls were wearing more fashionable clothing to show that they are the most prestigious students in the school that everyone looks up to. They have bubbly and smiley facial expressions to show how they are excited to get to know the new girl and want to be friends with her. This opposes the rejection the girl from extract 1 faced by the woman.
